Leica M8 Test : Photos were taken during the Leica M8 rangefinder outing on 2nd of August 2008. We were given the chance to use the M8 camera for about 45 minutes together with the Leica Summarit-M 35mm f/2.5 lens. I would have preferred to use a wider lens like the Tri Elmar M 16-18-21 mm f4 ASPH lens if it was made available. Overall the camera was quite easy to use once you get used to the manual focusing system and the direct see through view finder that is the unique hallmark of the rangefinder type of camera. The biggest drawback of this unique camera was the cost of ownership. Since it's 2 main target market are the collector's crowd and the die-hard fans, it's very difficult for mere mortal like me who is so used to the Auto focus system and Auto everything features that are so typical of today's SLR cameras. The biggest advantage of such camera is it's relatively small size which will enable you to slip in the camera into any concerts or no-SLR camera events.

Canon EOS 5D Test : Canon EOS 5D testing with 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM and 85mm f/1.2L II USM. Test equipments courtesy of Canon Malaysia. All photos have been resized using Adobe Photoshop CS3 Beta. Photos taken with the 100-400mm lens are given a very minimal USM. Photos taken with the 85mm prime lens is not sharpen during Photoshop processing.

Abstract :

Celebrity Stage & Low Light Photography Workshop : This was a half-day workshop conducted by John Ishii, one of the most celebrated photographer in Malaysia. Participants were given the opportunity to shoot real live comedians in actions at The Actors Studio in Bangsar, spanning 4 nights of non-stop laughters. The free flow shows were hosted by a group of young and talented comedians (oh.... and also award-winning) who managed to tickle even the most serious of the audiences to tears-flowing laughter. Even the most hearing-challenged person will laugh at their antics! And not forgetting, for a donation of RM10, anyone can step up to the stage to try his or her luck at becoming the next Harith 'Cute & Animated' Iskander, Joanne 'Come & Come' Kam or Jit 'Englishman' Murad. IMHO, the most entertaining skit came from the Allan & Indi duo. Allan Perera and Indi Nadarajah show was just awesome; it even comes with the Broadway style musical & husky-voice introduction. For a donation of RM10, it's worth every cent.
